The BET Awards, one of the most significant events in Black entertainment culture and a celebration of achievement across music, television, film, and sports, has released its full preview for the 2026 ceremony — and the lineup across both nominees and performers reflects an extraordinary year for Black creativity across all entertainment sectors. The show continues to serve as one of the most important platforms for recognizing and amplifying Black excellence in an industry that has historically undervalued and under-awarded Black talent.
This year’s ceremony will honor Sylvia Rhone with the “Ultimate Icon” award, recognizing the veteran music executive’s extraordinary career at the highest levels of the recording industry. Rhone’s decades of work championing artists and breaking barriers for women and people of color in executive positions has made her a transformative figure deserving this recognition from an organization dedicated to celebrating Black achievement in all its forms.
The music categories feature some of the year’s most commercially and artistically significant Black artists, with nominees spanning R&B, hip-hop, gospel, and the increasingly important Afrobeats genre that has achieved global commercial prominence in recent years. The competition across categories is described as unusually fierce, reflecting the extraordinary depth of quality in Black music during the current period.
The performance lineup has been developed to showcase both established superstars and emerging artists representing the next generation of Black musical excellence. BET has a long history of using its awards platform to introduce breakthrough talent to television audiences, and this year’s show continues that tradition with several exciting debut appearances.
Film and television categories recognize a year of exceptional output from Black creators, directors, writers, and performers working across streaming, broadcast, and theatrical release. The breadth of recognition across platforms reflects the increasing opportunities available to Black creatives, even as significant disparities in representation and compensation persist throughout the industry.
The ceremony will air on BET and stream on Paramount+.
