THE EVOLUTION OF KPOP GROUPS OVERTIME.
Here we are going to discuss the success of Kpop Groups and how they contributed to the success of kpop.
Everyone has heard of the Kpop giants BTS, BLACKPINK, & EXO. But where did it all begin? Have you ever wondered? There were many kpop groups and artists that contributed in the success of kpop.
Well, here is your answer:
It all started with the debut of Seo Taiji and the Boys (서태지와 아이들) in 1992, consisting of only three members,
( Seo Taiji, Yang Hyun-suk, and Lee Juno) this group was active for about four years. Even tho it was a short reign they were credited for changing the South Korean Music Industry. After Seo Taji and The Boys, came The boy group H.O.T.
HOT
Signed under SM entertainment. This group consisted of five members ( Heejun, Woohyuk, Tony, Kangta and Jaewoon). They were active for about a total of five years in total from 1996-2001.
They parted ways from their entertainment company because of disagreements resulting a disbandment.
Alongside H.O.T A girl-group also made their debut under SM Entertainment, This group consisted three members (Shoo, Eugene and Bada) They debuted in 1997 but later disbanded in 2002.
They had the highest numbers for albums sold for any first generation girlgroup, selling more than 650,000 albums and staying on the charts for 10 to 14 weeks soon after debut.
G.O.D
Groove Over Dose aka G.O.D was a boyband formed by SidusHQ in 1997, it was one of the most popular boybands of the early 2000s.
G.O.D consists of five members (Joon, Kyesang, Danny, Hoyoung, and Taewoo). They are often refered to as “The Nation’s Idol” or “Legends of K-pop”, They represented kpop on the MTV ASIAN AWARDS held in Singapore. They were also chosen as country’s representative artists to be featured in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
SUPER JUNIOR
SUJU OR SJ is a boygroup under SM entertainment and they debuted in 2005, this group consists on 10 members (Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook and Kyuhyun.). The Korean media dubed them as “King of Hallyu Wave” because of their prominent contributions to the Korean Wave. They have been active since 2005 and some of their most famous releases include sorry sorry, lo siento and more.
SHINNE
Shinee is a boygroup also under SM entertainment, they made their debut in 2008 with the EP “Replay”. Their contributions to their native country have rightfully earned them the title of “Princes of K-pop” . This group originally consisted of five members but unfortunately one of them passed away (JONGHYUN. April 8 1990- December 18 2017), Now the group is active with four total members (Onew, Key, Minho, and Taemin). Some of their most famous releases are Ring ding dong, Reply, Sherlock and lucifer.
EXO
Debuted in 2012 under SM entertainment. EXO is a Korean-Chinese boy group, They debuted with their first mini album MAMA on April 8.
The group consists of nine members: Xiumin, Sehun, Lay, Kai, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, Chen, D.O., and Suho. Some of their most famous songs include Call Me Baby, Overdose, Monster, KoKoBop, and Love Shot.
BLACKPINK
Blackpink is a girl kpop group under YG Entertainment consisting of four members ( Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa ). They made their debut on 4 August of 2016 with their well-known EP SQUARE ONE.
BLACKPINK has collaborated with a number of westren artists like Dua Lipa and Selena Gomez. They performed at one of the biggest music festivals known an Cochella and have represented Korea a number of times internationally. Some of their most famous songs are Kill This Love, Kiss And Make-up, Lovesick Girls and Ice-cream. Unless you live under a rock you have probably heard the name BTS, The Titans of KPOP.
BTS
BTS made their debut on 12th June of 2013. They debuted with the song No More Dream which peaked at number 124 at the Gaeon Digital Charts and sold over 50,000 copies. This boygroup consists of seven members ( Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook), They co-write and produce most of their own stuff. There is no doubt, they have immensly affected the popularity of Kpop. When it came to representing KPOP, Spreading the Korean cuture all over the world or proving over time and time that music transcends all borders, no matter how high or how strong that border may be.
